DIY Christmas Stockings

A few weeks ago one of my closest friends and crafting partner decided to take on a Christmas stocking project. We were beyond elated with the results so I thought it would be worthy of sharing with all of the Ivory House followers. Featured below are the final products and step-by-step instructions on how to create these beauties!

Items You Will Need

• Sewing Machine
• Fabric of your choosing (1/2 yard per stocking) (We used red and tan burlap as well as an ivory canvas for the lining.
• Thread of the appropriate color
• Extra large piece of paper or a single sheet of poster board for template
• Hot glue gun
• Any type of ribbon, lace, buttons, letters, ruffles, etc. that you would like to use to decorate
• Seam Ripper (For any mistakes that may come along)
• Quilting Pins for holing fabric together while cutting.

How To:- Create a template for the shape of stocking you would like. (We used an old stocking we had laying around as size reference.) You will need make the liner taller than the exterior fabric in order to fold it over the top in the end.

• Double up your fabric and trace around your stencil.
• Pin the fabric together and then trim around your tracing lines. (Note: You will need to do the previous two steps again for the liner)
• Once cut out remove pins and line up all four pieces of fabric together putting your liner on the outside and repin.
• Sew around the edge of the stocking leaving about a quarter of an inch seam. (DO NOT sew the top of the liner to the exterior fabric. You will sew it separately later on.)
• Once the exterior is sewn flip stocking inside out.
• Sew the edges of the liner and then fold over.
• Trim a sliver of extra liner fabric. Fold in half and sew to the inside of the stocking. (This may have to be done by hand using needle and thread. You can use the machine. It is your preference.)
• Now you are ready to decorate with all of your ribbon, buttons, lace, etc. using the hot glue gun.
• Finally, hang your beautiful DIY stockings for display.
